Small Victories

It feels so long ago now that I was sitting in the pediatrician’s office listening to him come down on me about needing to feed Emma more. She was meeting her milestones (minus weight), and she wasn’t crying for more food. But the way this expert was talking to me, I was starting to feel like I was a bad mother. She was below the charts in weight and trying to strictly breastfeed her wasn’t working according to him. While he was telling me I needed to start supplementing with formula and feed her more whether she was crying to be fed or not, my thoughts turned to how I was failing her. Upset, I turned to some of my mom friends who quickly advised me that the first thing I needed to do was to find a new pediatrician. So I did, and it was the best choice I made. As Dr. Miller put it, some babies need to be below the line. Emma just happened to be one of them. She continued to hit her milestones (many of them ahead of the norm) and as of her visit to the GI doc yesterday, she is now higher at her age percentage wise for weight than she is for height.

Parenthood is a series of small victories (and yes some big ones too) as we navigate through each stage and phase preparing our little ones to be the best that they can be. Thank you to my family and friends that have been there for me through those victories. Emma is healthy (no more bowel trouble) and fully on the charts for everything now! We start potty training next week, so be ready for those texts and phone calls my family and parent friends! It takes a village after all!
